Public Transportation

In any case, there is also public transportation: if you plan to make your own way to the La Cristalera, you would need to take the bus #725 departing Plaza de Castilla. Tickets can be purchased on the bus, but you require exact change! A single trip is EUR 5,10. More info here: https://www.crtm.es/tu-transporte-publico/autobuses-interurbanos/lineas/8__725___.aspx

But public transportation takes a substantial amount of time and will not get you to the La Cristalera but only to the village Miraflores de la Sierra; from there it is another 2.5km walk (on a road with no curb) to the workshop venue. We therefore discourage you from this option.

Taxi/Uber/Cabify

A taxi ride from the airport to the La Cristalera costs ca. EUR 80,-, but only if you book the taxi in advance. If you require that service, please check, for instance, the following website:

taxi.booking.com, www.mitaxi.net

The full address of the La Cristalera is as follows:

km, M-611, 10, 28792 Miraflores de la Sierra, Madrid

  1. If you want to travel around in Madrid (Metro, Bus), you require a travel pass ("Multi Card"). But that can be purchased at every metro station vending machine. Those travel passes need then to be charged with your desired trip(s). More info here: https://www.metromadrid.es/en/travel-in-the-metro/card-types

  1. Metro:
Madrid has an extensive and convenient metro system. Tickets can be bought at stations either from a machine (accepting cash, including notes, bank and credit cards) and usually also from a ticket office. The price depends on your origin and destination and will be calculated individually. Note, tickets are charged to a card that you would also need to purchase the first time you make a trip, but all vending machines also sell this card.

  1. Buses:
There are two type of buses, the local ones of the EMT (red or blue) and the Interurbanos (green). For the EMT buses you can buy a single in the bus or use the 10-trip metroticket (not available on buses but from the vending machines in Metro stations). The interurbanos use separate tickets, which can be bought on the bus. Bus drivers do not accept notes bigger than €5,-

  1. Cercanías Renfe:
Local trains, running regularly within the province of Madrid. The tickets look very much like the metro tickets, but are NOT the same. Tickets can be bought at stations either from a machine (accepting cash, including notes, bank and credit cards) or from a ticket office. There is a zone system, most of the center is in zone 0, the university in B1, the third zone.

  1. Taxis:
Taxi's are numerous and for European standards, reasonably priced. A ride from the airport to anywhere in Madrid costs a flat fee of €30,-.
